Football's new buzz word bouncebackability, the brainchild of Crystal Palace manager Iain Dowie, has a chance of entering the English dictionary if you vote for it.

A new on-line living' dictionary has been created by Collins to enable the public to suggest words that define their world.

People logging on to the site can argue why their word should be included in the dictionary and if they are successful they will feature in the on-line list of new words for 2004.

Bouncebackability is one of the most hotly disputed words on the living dictionary website.

The Collins official meaning of the noun, bouncebackability, is "resilience, particularly in a sporting context. The ability to come back from behind to win".

It came to prominence during Crystal Palace's march towards the play-offs last season, when the Palace boss praised his side's ability to come back after suffering a setback.

The word caught on so much that Sky Sports TV show Soccer AM started a campaign to get it entered into the Oxford English Dictionary and it is now a regular chant by Palace fans when the Eagles score after going a goal down.

Jeremy Butterfield, editor in chief of the English Dictionary for Collins, said: "Bouncebackability is an absolutely phenomenal word because it's very rare for a word to have such public backing so immediately. It's actually quite a useful word and I rather like it.

"The chances of it going into our dictionary are very high."

Bouncebackabilty is not the only new word from the football world under contention, Rooneymania, golden balls and Galatico have been touted as possible entries, plus words to describe members of society such as chav and chavette.
