Croydon Schools' U11 173- 3
Havering Schools' U11 89- 9

Croydon Schools' Cricket Association's U11 borough side ended the season on an upbeat note on Sunday, writes David Lomas.

They added the London Schools' Hansford Trophy title to their Surrey Schools' Prosser-Hansford Trophy success of last term, soundly beating Havering Schools, by 84 runs in the final at The Peter May Centre, Walthamstow.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, Croydon got bogged down in the early stages, creeping their way to 20 for two off the first 10 overs in a 30 overs-a-side match.

Opener Jack Johnson (Woodcote) was bowled off the first ball of the innings, by Beth Langston. Michael Ridley (St John's) and skipper, Sujit Dadar (Park Hill) tried hard to give the innings some impetus but on all too many occasions they were unable to pierce the field.

Ridley was run out for 14, bringing Cumnor House's county player, Elliot Daly to the crease.

Dadar led from the front, savaging the bowling for 16 runs off the 14th over. Daly got in on the act, twice hitting 12 in an over, as the duo rescued Croydon.

The third wicket partnership had put on 106 in 15 overs putting Croydon in the driving seat before Daly was caught for 55, an innings which included 10n fours.

But Croydon still had enough fire power to significantly increase their total. Josh Peck (Woodcote) was promoted up the order and hit a quickfire unbeaten 17 whilst Dadar was also not out, on 70, as Croydon added 44 runs in their last five overs, finishing on a formidable 173 for 3, which Havering, despite a steady start, were unable to find a reply to.
