Arsenal XI 0
Crystal Palace 3
(Danze 4, Shipperley 31, Andrews 64)

A new look Crystal Palace side ran out comfortable 3-0 winners over a youthful Arsenal XI in a friendly at the Gunners' London Colney training ground last Thursday.

Australian trialist Anthony Danze, returning club captain Neil Shipperley and new signing Wayne Andrews were all on the mark as Iain Dowie gave his new signings, trialists and fringe players, a run out.

Twenty-year-old midfielder Danze did not take long to impress his new boss. Latching on to a fine ball from Ben Watson, Danze opened the scoring after only four minutes, firing in from the edge of the box.

Playing his first game since picking up a knee injury in pre-season, Shipperley made it 2-0 to the Eagles on 31 minutes, latching on to Gary Borrowdale's cross to rifle home a rising shot.

Arsenal's best chance came seven minutes before the interval when John Spicer put the lively Quincy through on goal, but Academy goalkeeper Lance Cronin made a great low save down to his left.

Wayne Andrews finished the contest on 64 minutes with an angled effort into the far corner.

Arsenal were denied a consolation goal in the dying minutes, Cronin saving the ball well with his legs.

Dowie said: "It was a brilliant exercise and we are very grateful to Arsenal. It was a good game; Bergkamp played, Lauren played and so did Aliadiere, but we put a very strong side out. I thought Nicola Ventola, Anthony Danze and Wayne Andrews did very well. Shipps did very well for his first outing, he set up a goal, scored and was a constant threat throughout."

Meanwhile Neil Shipperley, who acts as his own agent, revealed he is unaware of any interest in him from Sheffield United or any other club.

Last season's First Division play-off final hero has yet to kick a ball for the Eagles this term.
