Premiership new boys Crystal Palace scored a spectacular own goal after their name was spelt incorrectly on their football shirts.

The £39.99 replica home tops have the name Chrystal Palace stitched at the bottom of the shirt above the club's crest.

The error was spotted after the first batch of shirts went on sale at the club's shop at Selhurst Park and its franchise in Allders, Croydon.

Up to 4,000 of the replica shirts were delivered to the club last Wednesday. It is not yet known how many of the incorrectly printed tops have been sold to fans or whether the shirts will be recalled.

The club's name is printed correctly on the badge at the top of the shirts, manufactured by sports company Diadora.

Palace has contacted Diadora about the blunder and is expecting to hear from the Italian company today (Thursday) before deciding what to do.

A spokesman for the club said: "We are speaking to Diadora about the situation."
