Thank you for your letter (Guardian, July 28) regarding the broken gym equipment at South Norwood Pools.
I will explain to you the process that we have to go through every time we need to order equipment, stationary, stock or arrange for any maintenance to the building.
Croydon Council has put financial constraints onto all departments. A panel has been set up by the council to handle our finances.
We put requests into the panel for orders and we are not allowed to order anything at all until we have had authorisation from the panel.
I have not yet received authorisation to go ahead with getting the equipment fixed and I'm afraid I do not know when they will authorise releasing the money.
Everything has been done at our level within the centre to try and get the equipment fixed as soon as possible but it is out of our hands and is the hands of the council.
We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused you and I too hope that this will be resolved soon.
