So Councillor Dennis tells us that everyone wants an arena at East Croydon (Guardian, July 28).
Not true. I do not want an arena there, nor do many people locally to whom I have spoken. I fear that, not for the first time, the council (or rather the secretive inner cabinet) has decided what is good for us.
No doubt we will be consulted' after the event as usual.
Assuming that the arena is built (and hailed as prestige and flagship and all the rest of it by our spinmaster), it will obviously have to be put to good use to be worth building. So, how often will it be used?
For what events or purposes? What about the logistics about bringing thousands of additional people to an already busy and congested part of Croydon (and taking them away again afterwards?)
If these matters are not carefully considered I fear we will find ourselves with a repeat, only on a larger scale, or the Linear Park fiasco.
