A residents' association in Shirley is planning to smarten up parks and roads this month with a spring clean.
Spring Park Residents' Association (SPRA) says it's hoping to combat problems of crime and vandalism by organising a clean-up day on Saturday, August 7.
The event, dubbed Spring Clean Spring Park, is one of several initiatives to encourage people in Shirley to take care of their community.
Volunteers will plant shrubs and clean up litter at Monks Orchard shopping parade and Shirley recreation ground between 11am and 1pm.
SPRA's chairman Madawala Hemananda said: "While we are lucky to live in an area like Shirley with its parks and open spaces, many residents have become concerned with a general deterioration in the appearance of the locality and the subsequent downward spiral of petty crime and vandalism that has followed."
To take part in the event call Marzia Ehikioya on 020 8406 1848 or email kwilliams@fsmail.net.
