Two Italians face trial for murder this summer after two men were found stabbed to death in their West Norwood flat.

Unemployed Claudio Lamponi, 29, and Massimo Manai, 41, appeared in the dock at the Old Bailey today.

Lamponi, 29, of Norwood High Street, and Massimo Manai, 41, of no fixed address, are charged with the murders of Donald MacPherson, 60, and Luciano Schiano, 49, at Summersell House, in Bentons Rise, in October last year.

They will appear at the Old Bailey on April 16 to enter a plea. A provisional trial date has been set for June 21.

They are currently being held in custody.

The two victims were found stabbed to death in their ground floor flat on October 20 after Mr MacPherson's daughters became concerned when he did not show for work.

Mr MacPherson, a chef who had seven grandchildren, suffered stab wounds to the face and neck.

Mr Schiano, a Big Issue seller who spent a lot of time around Brixton station, died from a number of knife wounds to his neck and torso.
