Crystal Palace's new assistant manager Dougie Freedman has yet to make a decision on his playing career.

The Scot was confirmed as assistant to new manager Paul Hart yesterday but cannot double up as a player for the Eagles because of the club's transfer embargo.

This would suggest the end of a playing career that has spanned 600 games and 188 goals, but Freedman admitted he was still undecided about a return to the pitch once the job of keeping Palace in the Championship was over.

"I was trying to avoid the question of retirement as I don't have an answer for it," he said.

"I personally feel I have a job for the next two months to assist the manager in keeping the club in the division.

"That's exactly what I am going to do and I am going to be 100 per cent committed to that cause.

"What will be afterwards will be.

"My aim is to help keep this club in this division and hand it on to whoever comes in, buyers, managers, whatever."
