Residents have reported seeing a man carry out two armed robberies on a busy shopping street in broad daylight.

But police have not been able to confirm any details of the alleged incidents in St John's Road, Clapham Junction, on Friday afternoon.

Eye-witnesses reported seeing a man attempt two robberies, one at gun-point, at about 3pm.

F.Hinds the jewellers was the first target.

One worker at the shop said: “A couple of the staff were really shaken up. The man tried to smash the glass four or five times to get to the watches, but he didn’t get anything.

“He then went to a newsagents and held it up with a gun.”

At the newsagents the man is alleged to have pulled a gun on a worker before walking off with money and a bottle of alcohol.
