Tim O'Shea has praised Chris Piper after the Croydon Athletic captain scored a hat-trick in Saturday 4-2 win over Corinthian Casuals.

The win was the Rams' fifth in a row in the league and sixth in all competitions and sees them just five points behind leaders Folkestone Invicta, who they face this weekend.

Despite going behind early on, Piper scored three times and Gary Noel got another to continue O'Shea's sides good run of form since losing to Whyteleafe on January 26.

"Chris was outstanding among a very good performance," said O'Shea.

"The team were very good all round but the pick of the bunch was Chris who was outstanding and thoroughly deserved his goals and man-of-the-match award.

"He is in great form and is a major player for us this year.

"He is super fit and he knows himself he should be playing at a much higher level but is enjoying his football."

Athletic beat Folkestone 1-0 only three weeks ago and Invicta manager Neil Cugley attacked the Ram's style of play afterwards as long ball.

O'Shea though brushed aside his counterparts comments and said his players will be focusing on the three points.

"Neil commented last time that he was surprised by the type of football we played but that's an opinion of his," he said.

"I think it was a blatant swipe at us but everyone to themselves.

"We have had a great boost of form at the right time and we need to continue that run and put pressure on Folkestone.

"It will be a very big game and I am sure they will be looking to put the record straight against us after last weekend's defeat to Sittingbourne."

Next three matches: Feb 27 Folkestone Invicta (a), Mar 1 Crystal Palace (Surrey Senior Cup, h), 6 Burgess Hill Town (h).
