A 22-year-old driver who died when his car hit a bus in Elmers End has been named by police as William Cullen.

Emergency services were called to the junction of Long Lane, Croydon Road and Tannery Close at around 3.30pm on Saturday (February 20).

They found a blue Ford Fiesta had struck a route 367 bus carrying five people.

Fire crews managed to pull a man - thought to be the driver of the car - clear of the wreckage but he died at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics.

Police say his next of kin have been informed.

The accident happened on the Croydon and Bromley border and an air ambulance was sent to the scene.

The London Ambulance Service says a teenage girl on the bus was taken to Mayday Hospital, Croydon, with minor injuries.

The other passengers were checked over at the scene.
