Snow showers have begun to fall over Kingston and are expected to get worse tomorrow and Friday, leading to fears of further commuter disruption.

The Met Office is predicting a heavy snow shower in the south-west London area in the early hours of Thursday morning, and is expected to settle due to temperatures falling to below freezing.

A spokesman from Kingston Council said they were not immediately concerned with this week’s weather report and that there were currently no issues with its gritting supply.

The council, however, is no longer in control of ordering its own supplies, with central government still regulating the flow of grit to local authorities.

A Met Office weather warning for Thursday, February 11, said: “Snow showers may become frequent, heavy and prolonged at times, leading to accumulations of 5 to 10 cm in some areas, with 15 cm possible locally over high ground. Some drifting is also possible.”
