From Community Correspondent Christine Wicks: Published Date: 02 February 2010 - A new set of commemorative stamps celebrating one hundred years of Girlguiding go on sale today.

The set of four stamps highlights the organisation's four age groups, with different designs for Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Senior Section.

County Commissioner for Greater London West, Christine Wicks said: "These stamps are great - they really do capture the wide range of fun and activities girls enjoy in Girlguiding. It is not surprising that so many girls across the UK want to be a part of the organisation."

Nationally Girlguiding UK is the largest youth organisation in Britain and has 550,000 members.

The movement started at a Boy Scouts rally at Crystal Palace in 1909 when a group of girls demanded something for them.

The founder of the Boy Scouts' founder, Robert Baden-Powell, agreed and formed the Girl Guides a year later.
