King Henry VIII joined staff at the Carlton Mitre Hotel in Hampton Court Road on Monday, January 25, to celebrate the company’s 25th anniversary.

Carlton’s managing director, Alfred Bree, and hotel manager Anthony Levin also released balloons at the event, one of which contains a complimentary weekend stay for the lucky finder.

Sabrina Harker, the hotel’s front of house manager, said the day had been a huge success.

She said: “We invited King Henry VIII because he makes this area famous and people would recognise him. While he was here, he treated all the staff as servants - but he didn’t threaten to execute anybody!

“The company’s managing director Alfred Bree travelled here all the way from Holland to join the staff for a drink to toast the anniversary.

“This hotel is situated in a unique location opposite the palace. All the bedrooms have river views and there are no two bedroom alike because of the shape of the building, which gives the place a bit of character.”
