Administrator Brendan Guilfoyle has revealed he tried to convince Crystal Palace teenager Nathaniel Clyne to join Wolves on transfer deadline day.
Mick McCarthy's team, who bid £1.5m for both Clyne and Victor Moses last week, agreed a fee with Guilfoyle's The P&A Partnership just for Clyne, but the talented right-back decided he would rather stay put at Selhurst Park.
With the Eagles only managing to sell Moses to Wigan Athletic for £2.5m and Neil Danns rejecting a move to Southampton, Guilfoyle admitted he was disappointed Clyne turned down the switch.
"I am not awash with money," he said.
"We had four offers for Moses, three from the Championship and one from the Premiership.
"There was one offer for a player and then we had another offer for another player.
"I have only sold one player, Moses, who was always going to be sold.
"I was looking to sell another player but he refused to go.
"The offer was from a Premiership club but we were unable to persuade him otherwise so the amount of money I have got has been reduced."
