The boss of an Epsom coach company has stumped up a £1,000 reward for information after five of his buses had their windows smashed while parked on a main road.

Four coaches and one bus from Epsom Coaches had 28 windows smashed with an emergency hammer while parked on Longmead Road on Thursday (January 28), between 3am and 5.50am.

According to Steve Whiteway, commercial director of Epsom Coaches, the damage caused will cost the company over £20,000 - the cost of replacing the glass and having five vehicles out of circulation.

He is now offering £1,000 reward for any information which can lead to the prosecution of the culprit or culprits.

He said: “We are in the process of developing our site and needed to park the buses on the main road while work is being done. Unfortunately, someone decided to use an emergency hammer to break 28 windows. I don’t understand why someone would do something like this, but we ended up having less buses out there.

“We managed to cover the services, but ultimately it’s the customer that pays the cost.”

Mr Whiteway said the area had no CCTV cameras which could have clearly caught the criminals actions. Ironically, the bus and coaches were parked on Longmead road because cameras were being installed at the company’s site.

He said: “Police could not identify anyone on CCTV, so it does not seem like there are any leads now. But we are keen for witnesses to come forward and give valuable information.”

A Surrey Police spokeswoman said: “Sometime between 3am and 5.50am on Friday, 29 January, criminal damage was caused to five vehicles parked in Epsom.

“The vehicles, all coaches, were parked in Longmead Road when the nearside windows were smashed causing approximately £2,000 worth of damage.”

Anyone who was in the Longmead Road area in the early hours of Friday morning should contact Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
