More than 100 year 9 pupils visited a diploma roadshow at Nescot College with their parents to find out about courses available to them as Key Stage Four options.

The roadshow, on January 20, gave information about diplomas in the media and the construction industry.

They also watched a DVD about the new approach to learning offered to them by studying diplomas, which combines theoretical work with team assignments and the opportunity to have contact with people involved in the specific industries.

The roadshow was supported by Chris Simpson of Wates and Clare Normanton, head of human resources at Eurostar.

They spoke with the young people about the advantages of developing independent learning and thinking skills that are a central part of the diploma.

Gay Bennett-Powell, Epsom, Ewell and Banstead 14-19 learning network co-ordinator, said: “The year nine visitors were given a great opportunity to see how the diploma will help to prepare them for higher levels of study and, later on, university entrance and employment.

“We were privileged to have the support and input of Clare Normanton and Chris Simpson.”
