Young people can get sexual health tips in time for Valentines Day with the relaunch of a website.

Teenagers can accesss information on condoms and other methods of contraception to prevent unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) at the site wwww.gettingiton.org.uk.

The site, designed by Sutton and Merton NHS, also encourages young people aged 13-19 to have the confidence to not feel pressured into having sex and to delay sexual activity.

Public health consultant Dr Boaventura Rodrigues urged parents to visit the website with their teenagers and use it as a means to talk about sex and relationships.

He said: “Research shows that most young people don’t have sex until they are over 16, but those who have sex earlier are more likely to regret it later.

“Evidence shows that talking with young people about sex and relationships helps to delay sexual activity and, when young people do have sex, they’re more likely to use contraception.”

A series of events will also take place to re-launch the website and a sexual health bus will be visiting Carshalton colleges and Sutton High Street on Wednesday, February 10.

On board, staff will be offering free, confidential advice on contraception, chlamydia screening for under-25 year olds and information on general sexual health issues and services.
