Some of the worst Valentine's day present men questioned at Centrale admit to buying include a four-pack of alcopops.

A quarter of men say they are not looking forward to Valentine’s day because they do not know what to buy their partners.

Up to 8 per cent told a survey at Centrale shopping centre they were on to a “sure thing” on February 14 if they bought the right present.

The men questioned said some of the worst Valentine’s presents they had ever given their partners were tickets for a football game, tacky underwear, a four pack of alcopops and an abdominal roller.

With their partners perhaps getting their own back, some of the worst presents ever received by men included a signet ring with a pit bull motif, a teeth whitening kit and a football shirt for the wrong team.

When men do decide to indulge their partners in romantic gestures it seems they are not holding back, with a third spending between £20 and £50 and one in six spending a whopping £50 or over.

Although not every lady will be as lucky, with almost 20 per cent of men admitting to spending absolutely nothing on their partners.
