Families learnt about hearing difficulties and the services available to children sufferers, at a day hosted by the Audiology team at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Roehampton recently.
As well as facepainting, one of the highlights of the day for children was the National Deaf Children’s Society’s Listening Bus, which gave demonstrations of new technology available.
Justine Sweet, head of audiology at the hospital, said: “We were so pleased that this year’s open day was such a success. We wanted to provide parents with an opportunity to find out a bit more about what our team does, and how we can help them. The children certainly enjoyed the face painting and toys, and everyone was given a goody bag and balloons to take home.”
In the UK there are more than 34,000 deaf children and young people, and about 12,000 of them were born deaf.
