A man who died after falling from his van into the path of another car this morning has been named by police as Sinnurdurai Balasundram.

The 49-year-old from Croydon was struck by a Mini travelling in the opposite direction along Ampere Way just after 8am.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by crews from the London Ambulance Service(LAS).

A post mortem examination will be held at Croydon Public Mortuary tomorrow, and an inquest will open in due course.

Police were called by a member of the public to report Mr Balasundram's white Mercedes van had collided with the Mini and a wall.

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: "At this early stage it appears that the male driver of a van fell out of his own vehicle and into the path of an oncoming car."

Two LAS fast response cars, an ambulance crew and the air ambulance were all sent to the scene.

Police from the Collision Investigation Unit at Catford Traffic Garage are investigating.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact the police on 020 8285 1574.
