Clapham United reserves turned the Greater London Women’s Division Three South form book on its head with a 5-3 victory over previously undefeated East Moore at Clapham Common on Sunday.

The visitors, sitting second in the table but with four games in hand over leaders AFC Fulham, arrived expecting to take three points back to south-east London, but were stunned as Clapham went 2-0 ahead.

First, Nikki Pieniek got on the end of Emily Rohrer’s deflected cross. Five minutes later, Rohrer herself curled in from the edge of the area after East Moore failed to clear a corner.

The hosts’ resilience was tested as East Moore fought back to 2-2 within 10 minutes of the restart, but they responded magnificently.

Brona Maher capped a superb display in defence by heading in Jo Rooney’s corner to edge Clapham back in front, before former Charlton striker Martha Day showed her class with two breakaway goals to render East Moore’s third goal 10 minutes from time meaningless.

Clapham are away to South London on Sunday.
