A teenage trainee has proved himself to be one of London’s most talented young professionals after being awarded a City of London Business Traineeship (CBT) award.
Ilya Karpenko was honoured after a summer placement scheme with Antares Underwriting, and was handed a six-month full-time placement with the firm after his work with Lloyd’s underwriters.
The 19-year-old’s line manager, Nigel Cole, said Mr Karpenko had “never failed to impress with his work ethic and obvious ability”, adding he had built bridges with staff in all departments.
Mr Karpenko, who lives in Croydon, said: “The work placement at Antares left me in no doubt as to my future career.
“I knew I definitely wanted to become an underwriter.
“Therefore I am thrilled to be offered a full time placement, and can’t wait to get started.”
The CBT awards were presented by Lord Mayor of London Ian Luder.
More than 40 City businesses took part in this year’s programme, which has been running for 15 years.
The Lord Mayor said: “The City of London Business Traineeship programme highlights to City firms the huge talent they have available at their doorstep.
“The scheme gives businesses a chance to experience this talent firsthand, and build relationships with the students so they will want to come back after taking off to university.”
