Croydon Harriers men were unable to avoid relegation despite a solid performance in their final Surrey League division two match at Wimbledon Common on Saturday.
Darren Bradley finished an unlucky second after turning an ankle during the race. He was beaten just 16 seconds, clocking 29:01 over the five-mile course.
On a happier note, the Harriers young athletes retained their title after finishing second on the day.
Mathew Hall finished second in the under-17 race in 15:20 ahead of under-15 winner Robbie Powell in 15:38. Meanwhile, at the Surrey Sportshall meeting in Guildford, young Croydon Harrier Lee Roche was runner-up in standing triple jump while Gemma Regan took second in the four-lap race and fourth in the vertical jump.
