Jedward mania hit Kingston on Saturday and although the Irish twins were met with deafening boos, they soon turned the crowd around with their four-song performance at McClusky’s.

X Factor rejects John and Edward donned fetching shiny suits for their gig at the club and were fighting off the girls during a meet and greet session.

One girl caught John off guard and grabbed a cheeky snog before being pulled away by security, while Edward picked up a cut chin from an over-enthusiastic fan.

The Surrey Comet gained exclusive backstage access but had to wait for the twins, who were jumping up and down because they needed the toilet, to return from the loo for their interview.

Edward, with his trademark blond quiff coiffered into place, said: “I think it’s like really crazy to be in Kingston. It feels so cool because it’s like Sean Kingston. I feel really gangster.

“We are from Ireland so we don’t even know what the places are that we hear.”

They denied rumours they had been signed up for I’m a Celebrity and said they could not make it to the jungle because of their gig commitments.

Cheeky Edward also said given a choice between Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue, they would not need to choose, because there are two of them.

Natalie Boncey, 22, said: “I thought Jedward were great - very cheesy. I only saw the tops of their hair as people decided to push their way to the front to boo.”

Gemma Skeet, 22, who watched their performance away from the mad crush at the front, said: “The people booing Jedward were really sad. They paid to see them and made their way to the front so I don’t know why they were booing.”

Not everyone was quite so enthused by their appearance; Leanne Bedward wrote on McClusky’s Facebook page: “Didn’t go ther 2 nite coz ov them, i cnt stand em. I cnt wait till this xfactors ova and sat nite goes bk 2 normal, used 2 go ther every sat without fail.”

Despite being booed at the start, the 18-year-old twins remained positive about their experience.

Edward said: “I feel like there are so many fans out there. We are just doing it for them, and the Surrey Comet.”

Their songs included Rock DJ, Under Pressure and the Ghostbusters theme tune, all of which they performed during their time on the X Factor.

Next week’s X Factor guest at the club will be Welsh warbler Lloyd Daniels, who was booted out on Sunday night.
