The woman accused of murdering Meredith Kercher is “naive, weak and fragile”, her defence lawyers said.

Amanda Knox, Miss Kercher’s housemate, and her ex-lover Raffaele Sollecito are accused of murdering the Coulsdon exchange student in Perugia in Italy in November 2007.

Prosecutors claimed Miss Kercher was killed after she refused to take part in a drug-fuelled sex game.

A third person Rudy Guede has already been found guilty of Miss Kercher’s murder. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison in a fast track trial last year.

Defence lawyers for Knox and Sollecito have been delivering their closing statements to a jury in Perugia, Italy ahead of an expected verdict at the end of the week.

Lawyer Giulia Bongiorno has blamed the murder on a sole killer - Rudy Guede.

She told the jury that Knox is “child-like” and "spontaneous" and not “Amanda the Ripper”.

Sollecito and Knox’s lawyers argue the knife found in Sollecito’s flat is too big to be the murder weapon and the DNA found on the knife is not substantial enough to link the pair to the murder.

They say Sollecito and Knox are also victims in the case.

Meredith Kercher’s family are looking for 25M Euros in damages from Knox, Sollecito and Guede.

Sollecito and Knox have both been in prison in custody for two years, since shortly after the murder was committed.

Prosecutors have asked for life sentences for both of them.

They both deny they were involved in the murder.
