A new police centre was opened in Aberconway Road, Morden, last Thursday providing a new home for the area’s safer neighbourhood team.

Morden’s MP, Siobhain McDonagh, joined Merton’s borough commander Chief Superintendent Chris Bourlet and council leader David Williams at a ceremony outside the new base.

Police officers and community support officers will be housed in the patrol base, identifying and tackling issues or concern with the neighbourhood.

Merton Council leader, Councillor David Williams, said: “Opening this patrol base is all about putting the safer neighbourhood teams at the heart of the local community.

“Merton continues to be one of the safest boroughs in London, but we can not be complacent as residents continue to cite fear of crime as a major area of concern.

“Ensuring visible policing is one way in which, as part of the Safer Merton partnership, we are responding to what residents tell us they want.”

The Aberconway Road patrol base houses the Ravensbury, Merton Park and Cannon Hill safer neighbourhood teams, in a fully equipped facility.

There is a public meeting room at the base, although Morden police office outside Crown House retains the front counter service for members of the public to visit in person.
