Croydon Athletic manager Tim O'Shea is refusing to put too much importance on league position despite dropping points against lowly Horsham YMCA on Saturday.

Chris Piper and Gary Noel both had penalties saved by debutant goalie Tony Di-Bernardo in the 0-0 draw at the KT Stadium and the Rams are now 11 points off the top two places in Ryman League South Division One.

Last night they faced fourth-placed Walton & Hersham and on Saturday travel to third-placed Godalming Town but O'Shea was keen to emphasise there was still a long way to go.

"We are still only 15 games in," he said.

"It's not going to be all done and dusted yet and we wanted to keep on the shirt tails of the top three of four and we have done that so it's a good opportunity.

"We missed two penalties and that was a credit to their goalkeeper.

"The good thing was we kept a clean sheet and performance wise and effort wise everything was there but when you miss two penalties you know it's not going to be your day.

"The match against Godalming is a big game and we have beaten them twice already this season so they will be playing to try and get a little bit of revenge."

Striker Charlie Sharman meanwhile is set to discover whether he will need surgery on his face having broken his eye socket and cheekbone against Walton Casuals last week.

"Charlie is not too bad and is back up and about," said O'Shea.

"He is due to find out this week if he needs an operation as it was horrible blow to his face.

"We thought at first it might have been a broken nose and were a bit shocked at the news.

"We are going to lose him for a good few months and he was just settling in as well and playing well."

Next three matches: Dec 5 Godalming Town (a), 8 Welling (London Senior Cup, a), 12 Worthing (h).
