Twelve staff at Surrey Police have completed training to become lesbian and gay liaison officers (Laglos).

Alongside their existing role in the force, Laglos work to build trust with Surrey’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.

They also offer practical advice and support to victims of homophobic crime.

Mick Day, head of Surrey Police’s diversity directorate, said: “Any form of hate crime is a serious offence and this training programme demonstrates our continued commitment to working with the LGBT community.

“Hate crime often goes unreported but by improving lines of communication with the police we can get the message out that we are here to help and you can speak to us.”

To contact a member of Surrey Police’s Laglo team, call 01483 630474 or email laglo@surrey.pnn.police.uk.
