Three lions received a roaring reception when they arrived at a local school on Wednesday.

Pupils were treated to a star-studded line up when the former British and Irish Lions Head Coach Ian McGeechan, along with World Cup winners Will Greenwood and Kyran Bracken, took part in a day-long rugby extravaganza at Trinity School in Croydon.

The day kicked off with a fascinating ‘Question and Answer’ session before Mr.McGeechan took to the field to give a memorable training session to the lucky members of the senior rugby teams.

Mr.McGeechan expressed his delight at the progress of English rugby at grass roots level and made quite an impression on the boys, teaching them the same tips learnt by the Lions on the tour of South Africa in 2009.

Nathan Yarde, who represents for Harlequins U19 side and the South of England outside of school, said: “It was very constructive and insightful to see what actual Lions players do.”

Senior Prefect and First Team player Tim Bateman said: “It was a once in a lifetime training session. He made the basics obvious, the obvious easy and made us put it into practice. It was great.”
