Police are searching for witnesses after a man was stabbed at a Croydon tram stop.

The attack, on Sunday at 9.20pm involved two men, one of whom was hospitalised after receiving knife wounds at the Gravel Hill tram stop.

Detective Sergeant Bob Stokoe, based at Croydon British Transport Police station, said: “BTP and Metropolitan Police officers were called to Gravel Hill tram stop around 9.20pm on Sunday, November 29, following reports of a disturbance between a group of men.

“One of the men, a 22-year-old from New Addington, received a non life-threatening wound and was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service. He was discharged from hospital later on Sunday evening.

“A second man, a 20-year-old from New Addington, was also taken to hospital after receiving facial injuries and was later discharged.”

Officers conducted a search of the area following the incident and recovered a knife from the tracks but no arrests have been made in connection with the incident so far.

Detective Sergeant Stokoe added: "We know from our investigations so far that a number of people on board the tram may have witnessed this incident and we are appealing for them to contact us.

“While the investigation is in its early stages, officers are working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, including how the man came to be injured, and I urge anyone who has any information that could assist our investigation to come forward.”
