More than a dozen people had to be evacuated from their homes as fire ripped through a derelict workshop early this morning.
About 30 firefighters spent more than two hours tackling the blaze after it engulfed the empty two-storey building in South Norwood High Street.
Around 75 per cent of the workshop was damaged by the fire, although crews managed to prevent it spreading to nearby homes or the adjacent railway line.
Firefighters from Woodside, Croydon and Norbury all helped put out the blaze, which had spread quickly due to the mass of rubbish dumped in the building.
A spokesman for London Fire Brigade said the cause of the blaze, which began just after 5am, was under investigation.
