By Community Correspondent Aarti Shankar. You often hear of "around the world in 80 days", but it is a tribute to the talent of Sutton High School that we managed to conduct a similar whistle-stop tour in one night only! Reaching far and wide across the world, we managed to bring the sparkle and joy of multiple nations to our hall.

As it is the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall this year, the evening began with a moving re-enactment dedicated to the victims of the segregation. Some of our German students paid tribute to those who suffered during the Cold War and even drew inspiration from a real life story.

Following them were outstanding acts from many of the younger years, including the participants and winners of Sutton High's 'Linguavision Song contest'. Performances in French, Spanish and German enthralled the audience, but the highlight of the night was undoubtedly the teachers' dance to 'Jai Ho', the theme tune to the multi-award winning movie, Slumdog Millionaire. Although not necessarily technically perfect, it was highly entertaining and reinforced the aim of the night: to have fun and collect donations for the Sudan Water Appeal.

During the interval, the audience, amongst who were the mayor of Sutton and MP Paul Burstow, were treated to high class cuisine from the Thai Jasmine Restaurant and Domino's Pizza. The winners of the raffle competition, sponsored by Costco, The Star of India Restaurant, The Siam Orchid Restaurant and Domino's were announced, as well as those for the 'One World photography contest', with all proceeds going to the Sudan Water Appeal.

The final half of the night was filled with dance acts from India, musical performances from the Far East and a flavour of Europe, before our night culminated with a gorgeous rendition of 'Evening Time' from Ayanna Blair Ford. The night was an entire success for all the girls and staff involved, as well as for the charity, and the range of culture within our own school grounds brought home the idea that it is a small world, after all.
