Seven people are recovering in Mayday Hospital this week following a head-on smash between two cars in Thornton Heath last week.
A VW Golf carrying six people was travelling on Whitehorse Road at 2.40am last Friday (February 1) when it crashed into a red Peugeot travelling in the opposite direction.
Five ambulances and two Norbury fire engines arrived at the crash site at the junction of Talbot Road. Norbury firefighters cut free victims who had become trapped in their wrecked cars.
The 51-year-old man, driving the red Peugeot, who suffered multiple fractures to his right leg, was trapped in his car for 25 minutes before being taken to Mayday Hospital.
The four women and two men rescued from the blue VW Golf were all aged between 16 and 23 and are still being treated at Mayday.
A 16-year-old girl had to be treated for hip and head injuries while a 17-year-old girl suffered a fractured arm and back pain.
Four of the accident victims were described as being in a comfortable condition yesterday.
One of the casualties is in intensive care but was described as stable.
Chief Inspector Campbell is urging anyone who saw the collision, or saw the vehicles prior to the crash, to call 020 8649 0186.
