The hard work and dedication of local healthcare professionals has been recognised through the Sutton and Merton Community Services (SMCS) staff awards.
A special award was given to SMCS’ Early Supported Discharge Team, which helps people to return home from hospital and live independently.
The team helped resident Beryl Smith who was discharged from St Helier Hospital in September 2009 after receiving treatment for a stroke.
Beryl’s daughter Sue Williams said: “Their visits made a real difference, helping her move towards a more independent lifestyle by improving her mobility so that she can now move around by herself and working on her speech, which has come on in leaps and bounds, really boosting her confidence.
“The team were always extremely patient and approachable, often going above and beyond the call of duty to ensure my mum received the care she needed. They truly deserve this award.”
