Julian Speroni has pleaded with Diego Maradona to give him a shot at the Argentina national squad.

The Crystal Palace goalkeeper has been in fine form this season and has long held ambitions of playing for his country in next summer's World Cup.

Despite being capped at U23 level he has never been included in a senior squad and has been continually overlooked by current coach Maradona.

While he recognises playing in the Championship hinders his prospects, he hopes Maradona will take a leap of faith and give him an opportunity.

"I hope Maradona notices the way I am playing and gives me a chance," he said.

"I don't think we have an established number one at the minute playing for Argentina and I think he should give chances for people doing well.

"It's difficult playing in the Championship though as it's not a top flight division.

"Argentina is a large footballing country and they have a lot of players who play in the top football leagues around the world.

"They might not know the Championship as we know it, they don't know the quality and the competitiveness of it and I don't think it is far from other divisions but they don't see that.

"Hopefully they will change their mind and try looking at other leagues."
