Holocaust Memorial Day was celebrated at the Drummond Centre last week where citizens honoured both survivors and sacrifices of those who risked their lives in Nazi Germany.
The January 27 ceremony opened with contemplative music performed by Croydon school students' string quartet.
The Mayor of Croydon, Chancellor Peter Hopson, also attended and lit a candle in memory of all victims of genocide and persecution.
Among the many guests at the ceremony was Daniel Martinho, the grandson of a holocaust survivor who played a guitar solo tribute.
The imam of Croydon also spoke of how diversity in Croydon provides hope for the future.
Council committee chairman Mary Walker was pleased with the success of the event. She said: "It was a very moving and dignified occasion and many Croydon citizens came to show their support."
