A Croydon councillor has been suspended from the Conservative group by leader Mike Fisher.
Councillor George Filbey, ward councillor for Upper Norwood, has had the whip withdrawn from him by council leader Fisher for an undisclosed allegation.
In a statement from Councillor Terry Lenton, Croydon Conservative Group Whip, he said: "I regret to inform you that yesterday the leader of the council, Mike Fisher suspended the Conservative Group Whip from Councillor George Filbey.
"The leader has recently been made aware of an issue concerning Councillor Filbey that requires further investigation.
"Until such time as this matter has been satisfactorily concluded, the leader has taken the view that it is in the interests of the Group that the Whip is suspended from Councillor Filbey."
Tony Newman, leader of the Labour group said: "We should all be told as soon as possible why the whip has been suspended."
