Yet another late double substitution by Blues manager Jim Cooper proved very successful as a deserved win took the Met into round three of the League Cup.

More important it was the Blues third win in succession and the confidence is growing after every game.

Despite the lack of goals in the first half the sparse crowd were entertained by good attacking football from both sides with numerous goal scoring chances created but alas not completed.

Blues midfielder Rob Smith had a 25 yard volley attempt which just flew over the cross bar.

New signing Laurent Hamici making only his second appearance for the Blues looked very sharp and fit.

His motto seems to be shoot at goal at every opportunity and he had a couple of efforts from 25 yards out which we not far off the target.

One incident late in the first half 30 yards out he found himself surrounded by 3 Harrow Borough players.

He still managed to swivel around and get a shot in which was well saved by Andray Baptiste the visitors’ goal keeper. Mo Maan was also busy bringing off fine saves from strikers Rocky Baptiste and Danny McGonigle.

Within 9 minutes of the start of the 2nd half Harrow Borough had taken the lead. A mistake in the Blues defence allowed Jake Lovell to sprint clear and drive the ball home.

The Blues could and should have equalised minutes later. Craig Wilkins broke free and struck an opportunist shot goal bound from 12 yards out.

Andray Baptiste dived to block the shot and somehow deflected the ball off his goal line with his trailing leg.

After an hour’s play Jim Cooper brought on another two new signings, Gerry Gonnella and Christopher Kiganda. It proved to be very successful.

With just 4 minutes remaining Kiganda seized on a long cross and drove the ball into the net for the deserved equaliser.

Into extra time and the Blues without a doubt were now on top.

What a difference a goal makes! Ron Edwards had a great run but his 20 yard shot was well saved by Baptiste.

Into the 2nd period of extra time and the crowd were on their feet as Harrow Borough finally mounted an attack on the Blues goal.

The ball fell loose in the 6 yard box and somehow three shots in as many seconds were cleared off the Blues goal line by Mo Maan and a couple of defenders. Lady luck was with the Blues.

A minute later and the Blues counter attacked. Another cross after 112 minutes of play and Gerry Gonnella drove home the winner.
