A Claygate headteacher has achieved a lifetime ambition and completed a gruelling trek along the Inca Trail.
Raising money for the Meningitis Trust, Kathy Kershaw joined 15 others trekking through the Peruvian Andes and the historic sacred valley, before reaching the lost city of Machu Picchu.
Mrs Kershaw, from Rowan Preparatory School, said: “I found the challenge very tough, climbing steep mountains and descending deep valleys and the shortness of breath, due to the effects of the altitude, were certainly very challenging.”
Despite the difficulties, Mrs Kershaw said she found the experience truly rewarding and had been overwhelmed by people’s generosity, raising more than £2,500.
The Meningitis Trust helps more than 20,000 people a year through a range of support services so it is a worthy cause.
Mrs Kershaw said: “Meningitis is a devastating disease that can strike anyone at any age without warning and I wanted to tackle this challenge to raise money to help provide support for those affected by this disease.”
