Stoneleigh Athletic U12A ran out 3-1 winners in their derby with AFC Ewell last weekend, writes Mickey Helps.

In the first half Ewell found it hard to breakdown Stoneleigh’s defensive wall of Ross Garlick, Matthew Helps ,Stephen Baker and Ryan Shaw.

This gave Stoneleigh the opportunity to be adventurous in attack and goals from Alex Tokatlian and George Marcella gave them a 2-0 half team lead.

They could have had more through the hard working midfield of Abinay Redding and Tommy Ryan-Maynard and the creative wing play of Joey Tyler and Dominic Sandy.

The second half saw a rejuvenated AFC Ewell with the visitors creating a number of chances that required Stoneleigh goal keeper Ashley Castle to pull out some good stops.

Ewell scored with five minutes to goal and then continued to push forward to make for an exciting conclusion to the match.

This however allowed space for George Marcella to break free and score his second and stoneleigh's third Manager Rob Garlick said afterwards: “Both sides showed a lot of skill and commitment and this was a great advert for youth football”
