Metropolitan Police enjoyed a resounding win on Saturday at the expense of a Whitstable Town side stuck firmly at the bottom of the league table.

The writing was on the wall inside the opening 9 minutes as Craig Brown volleyed in a long cross to put the Police one up.

The Police were playing fast and furious. Ten minutes later this time a Brown cross found the feet of new signing George Jermy who drove the ball into the net for his first goal for the club. Craig Brown was on fire throughout the game.

His 45 yard solo run alas finished with a shot on target but was just deflected off the goal line.

The busiest man on the field was Kevin Fewell the visitors’ goal keeper.

He made a number of great saves including a Craig Wilkins 12 yard thunderbolt which he just managed to push away.

The away side supporters had to wait until the 31st minute before Whitstable Town finally had their first real attack.

Paul Axon having done all the hard work with two forwards loose inside the Police area chose to pull his cross back well behind his two colleagues with an open goal in front of them.

Axon finally found Dan Tanner with a 21 yard free kick but alas Tanner’s shot was yards wide of the post. It got worse as the first half stretched into stoppage time when a late flurry by Whitstable saw the ball twice cleared off the Police goal line.

Into the 2nd half and it was the turn of the Oystermen to go on the attack. A David Cory left footed strike was inches over the bar.

The Police finally regained their composure. On 60 minutes Gary Drewett picked up a through ball just inside the Whitstable Town half, cleared two defenders and drove home from 18 yards out for the third.

Five minutes later and Jermy seized on a headed pass with a 21 yard strike into the back of the net.

Finally on 70 minutes central Police midfielder Nicky Humphrey ventured up field for a free kick and headed home to make it 5-0.

All credit to the visitors they still battled on and Clint Gooding’s effort from 18 yards out was just over the bar. With the game into stoppage time yet another great run from Craig Brown with a perfect cross to Rob Smith whose header was blocked on the goal line and bounced back out to Smith whose return volley was saved this time by that man Fewell.

Two wins on the trot, are happy days here again as the Police look forward to a further 3 home matches next week.
