A budding Epsom-based indie rock band is one step away from signing a record deal.

9 Lives – who are inspired by bands like the Arctic Monkeys and the Clash – is made up of 17-year-old Glyn Technology School students Archie Cork, Martin Linch, Tom O’Brien, Chris Hills and Ben Allison.

The band formed just 11 months ago and already, record label the Animal Farm has invited the boys to their London studios, after spotting their music on social networking site My Space.

Drummer Archie Cork – whose brother is professional England under 21 and Coventry City footballer Jack Cork – said the record label asked the band to record more songs ahead of a possible tour next summer.

Archie, who writes the lyrics to all of the band’s songs, said: “We’ve finished five tracks, six others are nearly finished and I’ve written lyrics for 20 other songs. The record company seemed impressed.”

9 Lives rehearse three times a week in band member Tom’s sound-proofed garage.

They have played gigs at venues across the area and have several lined up over coming months. Archie said: “We founded the band because we all started playing instruments – we’re doing really well.”
