There’s £50,000 up for grabs for organisations based within three miles of the Epsom transfer station in Blenheim Road and the Leatherhead station at Randalls Road.

The cash is available to enhance community facilities, sports projects and historic buildings and structures close to the recycling, rubbish and transfer station.

New rules mean that substantial grants are available from Sita Trust, an offshoot of Sita UK, a national recycling and waste management company.

SITA Trust, a not-for-profit organisation, has distributed more than £70m to community projects over the last few years.

Until this year, only organisations within a 10 mile radius of landfill sites owned and operated by Sita were eligible for funding.

But now it will accept applications within three miles of qualifying waste processing sites, which include Epsom and Leatherhead.

There are two schemes available. First, a small grants scheme with a fast-track process for applications for funding of up to £10,000, where the overall project cost is no more than £20,000.

The second, a large grants scheme, receives applications for funding between £10,001 and £50,000. The overall project cost must be no more than £250,000.

Jools Mackin, of SITA Trust, said: “This is a real opportunity for communities in the Epsom area to access significant funding to improve community facilities. SITA Trust welcomes applications from not-for-profit organisations with projects benefiting the whole community.”

Sita Trust receives the funding it distributes from landfill tax credits donated by Sita UK.

Sita Trust has a comprehensive website – sitatrust.org. uk – with an online applications system to make applying for funding and publicising successful projects easier.
