Wallington backpacker Candice-Marie Litchfield was less than half-way into a trip of a lifetime in Australia when she received the devastating news that two people back at home had died of cancer.
After hearing the shocking news Miss Litchfield decided to do a skydive in Cairns to raise money money for Cancer Research UK in memory of her 13-year-old cousin Frankie Geraghty and best friend Jamie (Jay) Brownsmead, 31.
Candice-Marie, who set off for Down Under in February, said: “On June 11 I received a phone call telling me that my best friend, Jay, had sadly passed away at the age of 31, after losing his battle with cancer. I immediately flew back to England for the funeral and said my last goodbyes.
“On my return to Australia, I continued on, as Jay would have wanted, only to find out that my cousin had died of lung cancer at the age of 13.
“Losing both of them in such a short space of time has been extremely hard to deal with, but my anger and emotions are the driving force behind my need to raise support and awareness for Cancer Research UK.”
