The BBC has sold it Woodlands site, on Wood Lane, to Imperial College London in a £28million deal.
Imperial College is a science-based institution with a reputation for excellence in teaching and research that attracts 13,000 students and 6,000 staff. Since its foundation in 1907, Imperial's contributions to society have included the discovery of penicillin and fibre optics.
The University is now expected to move in new teaching, research and administrative facilities into the White City site by 2011.
