Croydon Council have spent an extra £118,000 on spin in the last financial year.
Part of the increase in the press and publicity office budget is due to spending extra money on the council “newspaper” Your Croydon.
An extra £109,000 was incorrectly captured in the publicity account, which relates to printing and photocopying.
In 2007-2008 the council spent £613,000 on the press and publicity office, an increase of 22 per cent on the previous year.
Part of this increase was due to extra money being spent on the Your Croydon publication.
A council spokesman said: “The extra £50,000 in the draft accounts was for two additional issues in the last financial year – September 2008 and January 2009. Previously, Your Croydon was only published 10 times a year.
“The extra costs also cover higher distribution costs required to ensure the publication is more widely distributed than has previously been possible.”
