Work is under way on the shabby looking tumbling telephone boxes in Kingston.
Contractors had fenced off the sculpture in Old London Road and were applying the base coat on Tuesday.
The work of art, ironically named Out of Order, were in a bad state, with panes broken in and paint chipping off.
Councillor Chrissie Hitchcock described the 12 cast-off phone boxes as “the most expensive climbing frames in Kingston”, which perhaps went some way to explaining their tired appearance.
But now they are being restored to their former state so, like it or not, the controversial piece is here to stay.
