The number of people who have lost their homes in Kingston has risen in the past year, bucking the national trend.
In the year until June 30, 140 repossession orders were made for homes in the borough as owners struggled to keep their heads above water, equating to 2.2 out of every 1,000 households.
Despite the increase, Kingston’s repossession figures are still among the lowest in the capital. Croydon tops the list with 840 repossession orders and in Newham there were 805.
Seven per cent more people lost their homes in Kingston in the past year, compared with the 12 months before.
Nationally, there was a 10 per cent drop, which has been put down to interest rate cuts.
Kingston’s tenants fared better than homeowners, with the number of landlords reclaiming their properties dropping by 7 per cent to 220 in 12 months.
